Dreamworks Animation CEO Jeffrey Katzenberg has announced plans to develop “Mr Clean: The Early Years,” a $150 million animated biopic based on the rise of Mr. Clean, the iconic mascot for the Procter & Gamble household cleaning product. According to Katzenberg, he came up with the idea for the Mr. Clean animated origin story while watching the company’s recent commercial.
“A lot of my ideas for animated films come from the most random places,” Katzenberg told Hollywood & Swine. “The idea to make the animated film ‘Turbo’ came after I saw a snail moving along my driveway. And the idea to make ‘Mr. Peabody & Sherman’ came after I was thinking how great it would be to have time machine so I could go back in time and stop Dreamworks from making that boxoffice disappointment ‘Turbo.’ ”
Katzenberg also revealed Mr. Clean will be voiced by “Fast & Furious” star and real-life Mr. Clean doppelganger, Vin Diesel. “Mr Clean: The Early Years will feature what Katzenberg promises to be the next great song from an animated film: “Let it Glow,” a heart-breaking melody about getting your kitchen floors shining, which will be performed by Idina Menzel.
